Time also flies when you are simply busy with life happening. Grandchildren grow up, get married, present you with great-grandchildren, you grow older, deal with health issues both your own and your spouse's and sometimes you just have to slow down and take a breath. This is my breath.

Several years ago my scrapping sisters and I decided we should give blogging a try. We discovered we loved it and kept it up at a steady pace for several years. Then, we found ourselves slowing down. Life happens and it sometimes requires your full attention so blogging was put on hold for most of us. We discovered Facebook as a means of keeping in communication. It's a great way to keep in touch with family and friends and doesn't require a lot of time. You log in, check your news feed, see what's happening, like some posts, make some comments and log out. Viola', or as we say here in the south, Ta-Da!

While I still am active on Facebook, I don't necessarily want to blow up my friend's news feeds with all my scrapping, pics or just my thoughts. I missed my blogging where I could more or less "journal" my thoughts and pics. I guess you could say it's my own form of therapy. I probably won't blog every day, maybe not even once a week, but then again, who knows.

I've decided I want this to be my first scrapbook post for my blog return. The picture was from 1967, my sister, our mom and me. It used to be a running joke that we were called "the blonde, the brunette and the redhead. Time has not been kind to the picture but I cleaned it up as best I could. I added the text at the top of the page as a way of finding humor in the "big hair" of the late 1960's. When I sent it to my sister, she replied "Don't let the story end, Sissy...you are too good at telling our story." So, for my little sister, I make this my blog return scrap:
After seeing the way Miss Boots so beautifully decorated the veranda, I thought I should make good use of it and do some blogging. LOL. This is a picture of Gage taken last weekend at Tweetsie amusement park in Blowing Rock, NC. I bet our good friend, Mat remembers hearing about Tweetsie...it was a train that used to run from NC all the way to Johnson City, TN. way back when! It was long before mine and Mat's time, but now that the train no longer runs, they made an amusement park for it. Kind of like Dollywood only on a much smaller scale. Can you see how this child has grown since my last posting? So hard to believe that he will be 5 next spring. He no longer spends every day with Pap and me, he is a 'big boy' now and goes to day care so that there will be other children he can play with and get used to the kindergarten routine.

I do hope all is well with my blog sisters. I think since Facebook came along we update each other more frequently on there than on our blogs. Just have to get Miss G into the Facebook age and we will be all set. Maybe if we tell her toddies will be served on FB she will decide to give it a try. LOL.

Things here are somewhat the same...Rhett, thankfully has not been ill this summer and we went to get flu shots last week so hopefully we can keep him well this winter. I, on the other hand, have been having thyroid problems which has caused me to gain a considerable amount of weight, which I hate but nothing can be done about it. I'm on Synthroid but it does not help with the weight problem. Oh the benefits of being old!

Ok...with thanks again to Miss Boots for both the decorations and the qp, I will sign off now and get ready to watch the new season premier of one of my favorite shows...Nashville!

Since it's chilly out tonight, I have left toddies for y'all.

Love and hugs,

You're kidding, right?!?!?!? I suppose I can blame it all on that FB thing. That and the fact that I have started so many scrap pages lately only to get frustrated and delete them because I can't seem to get creative any more... It's not that I don't have the inspiration or enough pics to scrap...I just can't seem to make myself happy with anything I try to create. I never thought of myself as really artistic but I look at other peoples scrap pages and think "why can't I do that?". So I do a page every once in a while and post it on FB and that's as far as it gets.

I do so enjoy the QP's made by Miss Boots and Mat and I try to take inspiration from them, but I'm just a big flop! Kyra has some awesome kits as well as some other favorites of mine but I can't seem to do anything that meets my own standards. I'm still using PSE5 and wondering if I should upgrade.

Well, I'm sure y'all have heard enough of my complaining so here is the latest little thing I did. Going through Gage's pics and comparing them...can't believe how grown up he looks compared to pics from just a couple of years ago...he's only 4 you know, lol.

So...we have been waiting all winter for enough snow to make a decent snowman. All we have had so far has been less than an inch...we had to go almost all the way through the alphabet to get to "winter storm Paz" before we ended up with 7 or 9 inches, depending on where you live. We live in the city so we only have 7 inches. Gage lives about 3 miles away and they have 9 inches.

I honestly don't remember snow having names when I was growing up...it was simply 'winter'. lol.
Although we are happy to be playing in the snow, I feel really bad for the folks who got ice and have been without power for days. We have 'been there, done that' and it is certainly not fun.

I have more Gage pics but wanted to get this one done so I could use Linda's really cute snowman qp. Thank you, my friend for sharing your talent with us.
Hugs to all,
Miss Scarlett

I've had this page just hanging out in my external hard drive for a while...just because it means a lot to me but unfortunately not to anyone else. But I posted a similar page that I did of Rhett with his siblings and printed and framed it, so I thought it would be neat to make a similar page for me and my sisters and print it out to frame beside Rhett's page. Mom didn't have any sons..just us three girls. I'm the oldest, Joni (sitting) is in the middle and Betty (on the left) is the baby. It's such a long story with us girls...I've always been the one who tried to keep us close, even though we live many miles apart, but I get very little cooperation from the other two. They aren't close to each other either...sad but true...anyway, it made me feel good to make this page so I did!!! Dang it, I'm so tired of being ignored. Obviously, as you can tell by looking at me, this was taken a few years ago (like close to 20 yrs.) and it was the last time all three of us were together at Mom and Dad's. Matter of fact, it was the last time all three of us were together period!! Anyway...don't mean to ramble on...just a page I made for me.

Oh my, I think we must have blinked one too many times! Our little Gracie isn't so little anymore. Ever the poser, she loves having her picture taken, so there are so many good shots to choose from, it always costs a fortune at the photographers! I mean, ya gotta have all of them don't ya? LOL

I used an add on from the kit "A Little Sunshine" by ManuDesigns. You can click on her blinkie on this page and see some of the gorgeous kits offered.
I love this picture of the little ones with Papaw!. This was taken at the cookout we had on Father's Day. Of course our big kids were here but... Gage and Gracie with Pap...it doesn't get much better!!Miss Scarlett aka Judehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02292854661671113206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8749512460561184088.post-91582165374646734232013-07-09T00:30:00.001-04:002013-07-09T00:30:55.889-04:00Hey Y'allI knew it had been a while since I'd posted anything here on the veranda but I had no clue it had been since March! Oh my, how the time flies...and you're not even having that much fun! :) I'm glad y'all have still been visitin' the veranda and helpin' yourselves to the juleps. Several reasons I've not done much scrappin'; Gage is now a 3yr. old and feels the need to "help" me when I'm on the computer and he loves to be outside. Kevin had to fence in an area of our yard because Gage is a runner and we live on a busy street. That child is a runner and he can outrun me. We have a very large yard in back but I couldn't take a chance on him running to the front and into the street. I thought at first he would be upset at being "fenced in" but he calls the area his "playhouse" because that's where his swing set and sandbox are.Needless to say, I've been spending a lot of time in the "playhouse". LOL. Then there's Facebook...seems everyone is on FB and pics get posted there. Several doctor appointments for Rhett...and I haven't been in a creative scrappin' mood in a while but I did do the last free class by Jessica Sprague..a lot of the things I knew already but I forgot that I knew them, ya know what I mean? It's like, oh, I've done that before a long long long time ago! I love her classes, she goes into detail and you can always pause the lesson until you catch up. LOL.

These are pages I did this weekend (they don't have anything to do with the class) but I was going through my pictures and came across one of the house that I grew up in. A couple of years ago we were out driving around and I said let's go see if it looks the same. Well of couse it didn't, but I took a picture of it and when I came across it I started thinking of the video by Miranda Lambert that I had seen called "The House That Built Me", so here is my latest scrap attempt.
I took this picture last Saturday at Gary's sister, Sue's birthday party and came straight home and worked on this page...I knew how I wanted it but it took several efforts until I decided this was it. It was so great that all the brothers and sisters could be there. I think we are all trying to make that extra effort and cancel other things to make it a point that the family gets together. The last two years have been hard on "Mary's Kids". Losing LeeRoy year before last and Dennis last year...we never know how much longer any of us will have.
They are heartbreaking. I'm sure you all have heard of the tremendous fire in Pigeon Forge that obliterated 35 or more cabins, and if you've ever been in one of those cabins...well let's just say they are all breathtaking. I feel so sorry for the property owners, some who lived there year round and some who rented them out.
So...would you believe that exactly one week before the fire, we made reservations for a cabin in Black Bear Ridge (where the fire started). We received confirmation that the beautiful cabin we had reserved was one of the ones destroyed by the fire. Daughter-in-law Dawn and I spent weeks looking at pics of cabins and had finally decided this was the one for us!! We picked this one because it was off Wears Valley Rd, which leads into Cades Cove (my favorite place to spend time). When making the reservation, which by the way, isn't until May 19th, we paid half down. Received conformation today that we have been relocated and upgraded to a luxury cabin at no extra charge. They told us the web site to go to see pics of the cabin and location to see if it met with our approval...It definitely does and we can not wait for May to get here. Spending a week in this beautiful area is really something we are looking forward to. Entertainment in the parlor tonight provided by Gage and after a couple of
juleps...he may sound pretty good. lol. The first picture just amazes me.
He watches Papaw play and he tries so hard with the left hand to do the chords.
Now, I'm not real sure this is a real chord, but to Gage it is and right now that's
all that really matters. Second picture he is strumming and thrid picture, he asks
Mamaw, "did you like that?" Yes, Gage...Mamaw thought it was beautiful!!!
Kit used is "Country Boys & Girls" by Blue Velvet designs.
Today was Storytime at the library so Gage and I went and had a great time. After the story lady read the book and we did a marching around the room with out little instruments, we made valentines. Gage informed me right off that he was making a valentine for Papaw...Those two are like peas in a pod, bestest buddies. Mamaw on the other hand is the kisser of boo-boos, the cuddler when it's nap time, the one who drives the car and follows the directions (given by Gage). I realize our town is small, but this kid is only going to be three next month and I really believe he can give directions to anyplace in town that we need to go. After we left the library, I made a quick stop at Walgreens and Gage looked at all the stuffed animals in the valentine section, picked up a few, gave them hugs and put them back on the shelf. I was surprised, cause I fully expected to have to purchase one. The one thing he picked out and would NOT leave the store without buying was a 59cent pencil with a big heart 'un-racer' on top. I said why do you want a pencil and he said so he could draw stuff with...you guessed it...Papaw! Oh, yeah, I did have to purchase two bags of M&M's...one for him and one for...well you know who!! It's amazing, the love these two share for each other, makes my heart swell with pride!
The kit used here is by Kyra called "Falling in Love".
Look what my 'fairy blog mother' did while I was gone this morning. Thank you so much, Miss Boots. You seem to know just the right time to 'pretty up' our blogs. I hope you sat down, put your feet up and enjoyed a toddy after all your hard work.Miss Scarlett aka Judehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02292854661671113206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8749512460561184088.post-10165989751679322952013-02-10T00:12:00.000-05:002013-02-10T00:12:55.513-05:00Sorry I wasn't home...Well, there is no pic to this post...it has been brought to my attention that I have had company and have not been around..did I not expressly tell you that if I'm not around you are to help yourself to the toddies...that's the way we do it here in the south. Bring Miss Gerri with you, she knows how it's done! lol.

I knew it had been a long time since I've posted but I had no idea that it had been two months! Guess I owe you all an apology..I could give all kinds of excuses, and most of them would be true..I've had the flu, ran a temp of 103 for several days, now Rhett has it. Kevin has changed shifts at work so Gage is here from 7am to 4pm. Not that he is any trouble, as long as I DVR Bubble Guppies every day. I have watched Polar Express until I have every word memorized. Also we have to watch the Grinch daily (not the cartoon Grinch, gotta be the real Jim Carey Grinch). Doesn't matter that Christmas has come and gone, these two movies play daily on my TV. Sick or not, you watch them.

So, in looking for something to post, I discover that my new external hard drive is empty..no scrap kits to be found. When my old external drive was acting up, I saved everything on CD's. Problem is, I can't seem to find the CD's right now. So I start looking through my "stuff". I find everything except what I'm looking for. I came across a DVD I did for Cory from birth to 12 yrs. old..he is now 17. So I spent and hour watching baby pics of him and crying my eyes out. He has grown up way too fast...graduating in just a few months. This brings to mind that I need to add pics to update his DVD. Then it dawns on me that I haven't even started one for Jay, who is now 15. How did I get so far behind?? So I spend another hour scrounging through old pics and then nostalgia sets in..looking at pics..stopping to bring old memories to mind...yes Miss Boots, my mind if filled to the brim and overflowing with memories.

Well, I did manage to restock toddy makings..so pull up a chair, make yourself a toddy...would you make me a double please!?!?!?
This can be the sweetest child you would ever want to meet...notice the key word here is 'can'. He's only 2 1/2 but I fear we have already gone overboard on the spoiling. Is there anyway to reverse this syndrome? LOL. As long as everyone does as he says, all is right with the world. But say the NO word and the neighbors think we are killig him. I don't recall his older brothers being this way. Some one please tell me it will pass! OK... so this doesn't happen every day, but pretty often. His dad picks him up at 2pm every day some days he's fine with it...other days, he leaves kicking and screaming "I want to stay at Pap's house!" Hey, I think I just hit on the whole problem here..the word spoiling and the word Papaw!!!Miss Scarlett aka Judehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02292854661671113206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8749512460561184088.post-15097784388889585352012-11-30T19:01:00.000-05:002012-11-30T19:01:11.521-05:00Such A Big Heart

This is Cory. You all may remember him from pages I did when he was younger. Those of you who have FaceBook pages have seen him recently. I made this page because I didn't want to post it on FB because I think he doesn't want to make a big deal of it, but me, being the proud Mamaw, thinks it deserves recognition.
Last week, several of the school clubs met and decided that they would adopt an angel from the Salvation Army angel tree. A teacher went and picked the angel info from the trees and the clubs met and chose their angel. Now, the clubs are going to use their fund raiser monies to buy gifts for their chosen angel. After all the clubs has chosen their angel, one little 3 yr. old angel was left over. Cory went to his homeroom teacher and asked if it would be ok if he took the angel himself. Teacher said yes, if you're sure you want to take on that responsibility. Cory assured her that he was. This big hearted 17 yr. old guy spent his own money, to the tune of $170 to buy presents. Gifts included several outfits, shoes, socks, winter coat, gloves, and 5 toys. When he took the gifts to school yesterday to get them ready to wrap up, his teacher cried. Needless to say, his parents and Papaw and I have cried several times when we think of him doing this. We are so very proud of this young man, who is a senior this year and holds down a part time job sometimes putting in nearly 40 hours a week, while maintaining a A and B average in all subjects. Thanks for reading all this, I just think he is sooo AWESOME!Miss Scarlett aka Judehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02292854661671113206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8749512460561184088.post-65709028120172542632012-08-10T22:25:00.000-04:002012-08-10T22:25:07.087-04:00Remember The Good TImes

Now, with that being said, I have no idea what I am going to post next because I have been a very lazy scrapper since Facebook and Kindle Fire entered my life. Don't misunderstand, I have taken a billion pics..just haven't scrapped any of them yet. Soooo...have a julep (or two), put your feet up and I'll be with you soon.
OK...not your normal blog, but I have had this song in my head all day long. I sent the link via Facebook to my niece who, after spending many of her early years with me, turned into the "second" biggest Elvis fan. (with me of course being the first biggest fan, lol). He is either in constant movement and I end up with a blur which no one can make out or once in a great while he will say "cheese" and immediately turn his head away from the camera. sigh.. On the other hand, I have new pics of Miss Fluff that I will post soon and believe me...no prompting from the photographer is needed. She has this posing thing down to a fine art! LOL.

The kit for this pic was "Spring" by Aprilmouse.Miss Scarlett aka Judehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02292854661671113206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8749512460561184088.post-40647632486059099802012-04-01T00:21:00.000-04:002012-04-01T00:30:45.291-04:00Interview with Mamawhttp://youtu.be/A2tLySzQxzsMiss Scarlett aka Judehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02292854661671113206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8749512460561184088.post-14507791622766972982012-03-31T20:15:00.004-04:002012-03-31T21:06:42.808-04:00Spring Has Sprung in TNOh, my!! I am a very bad blogger...and friend. I haven't been blogging since winter. Truth be told, I was dreading changing my background and header. I don't find that fun at all. Still don't have the header. I can't seem to get it just right. Miss Boots..?? maybe when you find a spare minute you could help me out...pretty please.

There's been so much going on here with Rhett being sick, trying to keep up with a very active and independent 2 year old, and my Mamaw Sally passed away last week at the age of 102. She would have celebrated her 103rd birthday in May. I am going to post a video that my cousin did of her on her 100th birthday. No one knew he did it until last week. We are all so thankful to him for doing it and keeping it a secret until just the right time that we needed to hear it. Bless her heart, she has lived in Ohio since I was a little girl but she never lost her southern dialect. She is actually my step grandmother, but she is the only one I ever had and she never used the 'step' word.

Ok..can't blame my lack of blogging on Rhett and Gage completely...it seems there's this thing called Facebook...boy, it can sure use up your time before you realize it!! LOL. I guess now that I've got my background changed, I should probably go and get rid of the Christmas music. Will be back soon...
HUGS to all,
Miss ScarlettMiss Scarlett aka Judehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02292854661671113206noreply@blogger.com0
