Ashton's First Birthday

Sunday was the "Big ONE" for Ashton. There was a party at the park, lots of little friends, family, food, presents and of course, lots of pictures! This is just a sampling of the many pictures...yes, I'm giving you fair warning...there will be more!! We all know it's tradition for the little one to have a small cake to put his hands in, but it did not make him happy to have all that gooey-sticky stuff on his hands. So many memories captured for our precious little miracle.
Thanks for looking in on our little guy.

Our Other Southern Belle

This is our other granddaughter, Tiffani. We still call her Tiffi, she's 15 and is a "girly-girl". You know what I mean..she has had a million prom dresses, loves make-up, has a cell phone super-glued to her ear, when she's not talking she's texting, I worry that she will have carpal tunnel syndrome from over use of her thumbs. LOL. She has done dance since she was 3 and is now into competition cheerleading. Quite the little acrobat, she can do no hands back-flips all the way across the gym floor. Thanks for looking in on our other little southern belle.
The elements for this page are from my dear friend, Gerri. Thanks so much, Miss G!

Much too quickly

they grow up. This is our beautiful granddaughter, CJ, well we are still allowed to call her CJ, everyone else must call her Candace, since she's all grown up now. (LOL). It just doesn't seem like it's been that many years since we took her to have her little "Southern Belle" pictures made. How precious I thought they were, (still do). She vows never to do this to her daughter, I said "you won't have to, sweetie....I'll do it !! LOL
We took our other granddaughter, Tiffani , at the same time we took CJ. Her page will follow shortly.
Sorry I can't remember where I found the background and butterfly.

Daddy

This picture was taken right around this same time last year. It was just about a month before Mom passed away. The Hospice social worker took it on one of her visits to Daddy and sent it to me. I still find it hard to believe sometimes that it's been less than a year and both my parents are gone. I miss them both so very much, but Daddy was one of my heroes.
I used to call him every night at 7pm (because that was when Wheel of Fortune went off and he loved that program, so you didn't disturb him while it was on) anyway, when I called he knew it was me if it was 7pm and he would always answer the phone by saying "Hello, Judy-Bug" or "Is that you, Judy-Bug?" I know, I'm in my 60's and my Dad still called me Judy-Bug, he always did. I would laugh and say "Yep, it's me, Daddy." and I would wonder if someone else should happen to call at that time what would they think when he answered the phone like that. It's just like my friend Linda's word art says.."For every memory, I am blessed". Thank you, Daddy for all the wonderful memories you left with me. Happy first Father's Day in Heaven.

Mr. Music Man

This is our Ashton....yep, he's discovered that anything he does makes our hearts happy. He loves Papaw's keyboard 'cause he can make all kinds of noise with it. lol. Spoiled, you say? Maybe just a little...but those of you who know what we've been through with this little one will understand. We are so blessed...he will be celebrating the big 1 on Monday.

Miss Gerri

Miss Gerri stopped in to join me for juleps on the veranda this afternoon. I had no idea she would be all dressed up ! I simply must remember to ask her next time where she shops for these lovely outfits.

It Was Bound To Happen

Poor Al...he can't take her anywhere! I heard Linda and Dennis had to sell some of their homemade maple syrup to get bail money.

Hospice, So Much More...

My sister sent me this article that was in the Yuma paper. It's an article about Hospice needing volunteers, but it shows what they did for our Dad a few weeks before he passed away. Most of us think of Hospice as the nursing staff that shows up when the patient is near the end of their struggle. Not so. They are so much more than that. Yes, they provide nursing care but oh so much more. RTA Hospice in Yuma, AZ. provided care for both our parents when they were at home and for Mom, even when she was in Assisted Living. They cared for Dad, during that period that he was home alone at 92 years of age. Regularly checking in on him, making sure he was taking his medicine, eating well, cleaning the house and more importantly, letting him know that he was not really alone. The social worker, Debra, and one of the nurses, Amberly, became like family members.
In Dad's last few weeks, he fretted that he was not able to plant the garden that he had kept for more than 30 years. Though, he really didn't need to do this because he gave most of the vegetables away. It was his routine and he felt compelled to do it. When an Alzheimer's patient gets something in their mind, there is no getting it out. My sister couldn't do it and care for him so Hospice gathered up their volunteers and planted Dad's garden. This picture shows Dad sitting on the patio and the volunteers gathered around him when the garden was finished. As it states, below the picture, he passed away three weeks later.
There are not enough words to express how my sister and I feel about these people. They were always caring, compassionate, professional, concerned, and yes even loving. They were and will remain extended family members.
