Merry Christmas from a much younger Jude !

Oh how this picture takes me back in time! I remember so clearly getting this boy doll for Christmas when I was 5 years old. He was all dressed up in a tuxedo and top hat and I thought he was a very special Christmas present, cause I'd never seen a boy doll before. Now days, kids would probably think he was a pretty silly doll, but I remember "way back then" Mom and Dad would take me to the movies and I remember Fred Astaire in a movie dressed in a top hat and tuxedo dancing with Ginger Rogers, so he was a pretty special doll to me. We still lived in Detroit at this time, it's where my sister and I were both born. In Michigan, Christmas was always white. I think that's where I learned to love the snow so much. My mom still tells me the story of the night I was born, when Dad tried to get her to the hospital in a January snow storm, the car wouldn't go because the snow was so deep and the police ended up taking them to the hospital following a snow plow clearing the way.
This kit is "Under the Covers" and was a gift from a very special friend! Thank you so much, I'm happy to use it for a picture that means so much to me.

Tiffani On A "Little Lady" Day

So here's our little "Funny Face" on a rare "Little Lady" day. This pic was taken on the day of the Junior High Prom last year. I think she looks every bit the lady in this pic but if you look really close you'll see the hint of mischief in her eyes. lol We love you, "Funny Face".

This is our 14 year old granddaughter, Tiffani, on her birthday a few weeks ago. She's our clown, dancer, gymnast, cheerleader, and she can go from tomboy to little lady in a matter of minutes. (although in this page you will see no signs of the little lady, she was too busy being funny at her party. LOL

Pass the Wassail Please

How could I not feel better? I've got wonderful friends who come to my blog bearing gifts of love, hugs and wassail. (I love a good steaming cup of wassail, thanks Gerri) .

Well, I spent the better part of 3 hours at the doctor's office this morning (kinda makes me glad I don't work there anymore) only to find out that I have chronic bronchitis and I'll be on antibiotics for the next 3 weeks, plus an inhaler and cough medicine. This is not good since we are doing the Christmas Cantata at church this Sunday morning. We had practice tonight....I'm singing sopran-alto ! LOL Hopefully, the rest of the choir will cover me up...or maybe I could just lip sync. lol Anyway, I'm praying I'll have some sort of normal voice by Sunday.

This is not a real good time to be sick since I still don't have our tree up and haven't done even the first bit of shopping. Can we say "gift cards all around"? Oh, I almost forgot, when I got back from the doctor this morning, Gary says, "Honey, I've got a problem." (Great, I'm thinking.. he has a problem. Does he have any idea what 3 weeks worth of antibiotics can do to a female.) "What's the problem, sweetie?" He replies, "You know that tooth that I broke a couple of weeks ago?" Yeah, the one I told him to go to the dentist about when it happened. "Well, it's really hurting, could you call the dentist for me?" He's been sitting here all morning, tooth hurting, and he waits for me to get back from the doctor so I can call his dentist....Ever so nicely, I reply, "Of course, sweetheart...that's what secretaries are for." Could someone please pass the wassail???

This child never ceases to amaze me!

Another page of CJ that I'm including in the DVD I'm making for her. I've just got to tell you what she told me after church last night. She gathered up her bible and jacket off the pew beside me and then put her arms around me and said "Mamaw, I want to do something good to change the world someday." and I said, "Baby, you've already changed my world for the good and I feel sure that you can do anything that you put your mind to." I am so very proud of this child, who at the tender age of 16 is so focused on the needs of others. She got off to a rough start when she was born but God let her survive and I feel certain that it's because He has a plan for her life.

My Poor Aching Head

Hi my friends. It's after midnight and I have just now got to log onto the computer to play. It's a long story...today I got a notice that my antivirus and firewall subscription was due to be renewed. Ok, that's another $70 or more. Then I find out that my cable Internet connection offers this as a free service for their high speed Internet subscribers. WONDERFUL!! All I have to do is download their software and I have guaranteed FULL protection. SIMPLE.....NOT!! I first have to uninstall my present antivirus and firewall software, ok, that shouldn't be too hard. Done. Now download cable "stuff". Done. Pop up tells me it's unable to full install. Call tech support, ask for someone who speaks fluent English, get instructions and new activation key, but first I have to UNINSTALL the cable "stuff" reboot and start all over with their download. OK ....done.
Another popup "unable to fully install". Call tech support again...got a nice lady with a TN accent. lol She tells me problem seems to be Yahoo toolbar.. UNINSTALL cable stuff, get rid of Yahoo toolbar, reboot and start all over... IT'S WORKING!! Finally!! But, man, my head is killing me cause I'm just not the most computer savvy person in the world. LOL If I wake up in the morning and this thing has a problem, someone is going to be in big trouble!!! lol Pray for me and my poor little computer. You may want to pray for tech support people also. LOL
Leaving love and hugs here for you all.

Santa's Lap ???

Even though he was only 6 months old at the time...Cory looks like he's pretty sure that Mamaw is a bit confused as to the difference in Santa and a Snowman. lol I look back on these pictures and I do so miss the times when the grandchildren were little. They've grown into such wonderful "big" kids now and I love them more with each passing year, but I'm so glad that I have memories like these to reflect back on from time to time.

Papaw"s Girl

I've been playing around with different pictures of CJ to put on the DVD I'm making for her. This picture was taken the day we got to bring her home after she was in Neonatal Intensive Care for almost 2 weeks. She was our special Christmas Blessing that year and she continues to be year after year.
This is Carol's "Just About Anyone or Anything" kit and it's available at CJS scrapbookingwithattitude. Thanks, Carol.

She's Sweet Sixteen!

This is CJ ( Candace Jasmine) , one of our granddaughters. She has been the subject of of lot of my pages. This is the child who we weren't sure would live at birth. Our son and daughter-in-law had lost a baby boy three days after his birth just a year and a half before. CJ was their one last attempt at having a child. Well, God saw fit to bless us with this beautiful, loving, giving granddaughter and we continue to thank Him and praise Him for her. She attends a private Christian school, where she is a straight A student and will graduate in May at the age of "Sweet Sixteen".

This is the picture that I've been waiting for. For over a month now, CJ has been talking about her "Sweet Sixteen" dress and her party. All the things a girl of sixteen dreams of, but not once has she mentioned a present. When we asked her what she wanted, her standard answer was "I don't want anything, there's nothing I can think of right now." In fact, when she sent out invitations to her party, she included the line "in lieu of gifts, please bring an unopened toy for Toys for Tots." This child just melts my heart.

I've been decorating,

Well, I got the Christmas tree up!! No not in my living room, just here on my blog. lol I'm so proud...I just created my own header and it only took me the better part of an hour. Don't worry girls, I'll never be any competition for you in designing. lol I don't know how you all do it. PSE5 and I just don't see eye to eye most of the time. I didn't really make anything except the background (which is a real big deal for me). The tree and garland were freebie png's on the web, the Polaroid frame was a freebie from digitreats and the window was a freebie I've had for quite a while from Bengigirl. Nevertheless, I put it all together myself. My dear friend Linda, made my header for fall, aren't you proud of me Linda? lol
I just got off the phone with Dad and Mom and the Hospice nurse had just left. Dad's skin tears are looking some better and Mom says his hip has all the pretty shades of green, yellow and purple all over it. But thankfully it doesn't hurt.
Thank you all for stopping by and leaving the love and hugs. That just really makes my day.
I love you all,
Jude

A Thank You to All My Friends

You all are the "bestest" of friends! Thank you so much for showing such caring and concern for Dad and for the love and support you've given me. Dad and the Hospice nurses all assure me that as far as his fall is concerned, he's recovering nicely. On the other hand, he's pretty weak and sometimes unsteady on his feet and his Parkinson's is getting a little worse. Despite this, my Dad is so independent that he refuses to sit still for very long at a time. So we just let him do whatever he feels up to doing and pray for the best. What else can we do, his mind is still as sharp as ever, it's only the body that's not in such good shape. I guess it's our fault because we've always "let" him be the boss, lol.
I hope to get back into the swing of things soon, it's just been really hard for me to focus on much else right now. Would you believe I haven't even thought of putting up our Christmas tree and decorations yet? (and then there's packing to do for Linda's and my trip to Vegas) Goodness.... I've got to get on the ball!!!
Love to you all,
Jude

92 Years of Wisdom, Love & Understanding

This is my dad. He will celebrate his 92nd birthday next month! I continue to be amazed at the wisdom this man possesses. He's been a hard working man all his life and continues to try to do things that I sometimes wish he wouldn't. Like raising a garden year round. My parents live in southwestern Arizona where the summer temperatures are usually in the triple digits. Some of the vegetables are for him and mom but most of them are given away to friends and family. Dad tells us great stories about his life. He was a "real" cowboy in his younger days. I love to hear about the cattle drives and how he herded the cattle across what is now 4th Ave. , the main street through town. At one time he was even a poker dealer and he knows every trick in the book, so there's no cheating when you play cards with Daddy! lol. He proudly served his country in the Air Force during World War II. He's been a truck driver, a mailman and a welder. He is full of stories and I could listen to them all day long. Yep, I've heard most of them time and time again, but I still love to listen. My dad is my hero, a wonderful, loving, understanding and very wise man. I am truly blessed.

Eternal Love

Another pic I took at TJ and Amber's wedding. I love the pics of the left hands on the boquet. I did pics for our 3 sons weddings with this same pose...they all used different colors...peach, light blue and mauve. Wonder if I could put together a page of those pic plus TJ's lavender?? Would be quite a colorful page, wouldn't it? lol
I made the page in PSE5, again using "Purple Passion" by Debbie and Laura at 2mrssumnersdesigns.bravehost.com

The Case Of The Missing Gobbler

On a cool, crisp November day, Ms. Gerri Pilgrim had gone hunting all by herself and she captured a very nice Tennessee Gobbler. She took it home with her and, not wanting to kill it right away, she posted it on her blog site for safe keeping until Thanksgiving day. Then one day she decided that she wasn't sure how good a Tennessee Gobbler would be, so she decided she would cook this one up and see if it was good enough for her Thanksgiving dinner. She had plenty of time to go hunting for another one before Thanksgiving. Well, you'll never guess what happened next...she went to get her gobbler and low and behold....it was gone!!! So all she had to serve that day was a platter of mashed potatoes and peas. Poor Ms. Gerri Pilgrim!! Do you suppose someone thought the little Tennessee Gobbler was too cute to roast and so they set it free? Maybe someone has actually stolen the little gobbler...maybe it escaped and it's hiding in a pumpkin patch somewhere. Can someone please help poor Ms. Gerri Pilgrim? I feel so bad for her (lol).!!

My "Other" Parents

I did this page as a follow up for my "Where I'm From" page. This is my aunt and uncle that I speak of in that page. They had no children of their own and they played a large part in raising me. This picture of them was taken before I was born. I love this picture because it is naturally faded and edged as you see it. (no digitals back in those days, lol) My uncle was in the navy during WW II and my aunt, having no children to care for, worked in an ammunition plant in a near by town. They are both deceased now but I feel that I still owe a great deal to them for all they did for me.
The kit for this page is "Miss J" by cjs. You can find it and other wonderful freebies at cjsscrapbookingwithattitude.

This Is Where I'm From

I did this page for a challenge on another site. The challenge was to tell where you were from without actually naming a place. The object was to have you bring back memories that tell where you are from. It was inspired by a poem of the same name by an Appalachian poet by the name of George Ella Lyon. When I started making the page, the words just seemed to pour out naturally and I didn't want to stop. I was enjoying being lost in my childhood again. I could have gone on and on but you can only put so much on a page and still make it legible. Now I'm thinking I may pick up where I left off and do another one soon.
The kit used is Kleopatra's Brownie Kit, a freebie found on the web.

Creative Blackout??

Ever had one of these, or is it just me? I can't tell you how many pages I've started in the past few days and end up deleting them because they just don't look right to me. Anyway, I know there won't be a page created tonight because, I'm spending my time between looking at everyone else's great pages here and running into the kitchen to baste a turkey. Yep, you heard right...I'm roasting a turkey tonight because tomorrow is "Golden Group" day. Just in case you're saying what's a Golden Group...it's an outreach ministry we do at church on the second Thursday of each month. It is for senior citizens in our whole community, we have singing, a short service by a pastor (either ours or one from a visiting church) and food...lots of food. We usually feed anywhere from 80 to 120 or more senior citizens. It's such a wonderful time of fellowship. There are several of us from our church who do all the cooking. Which is why at this moment I have a 20 pound turkey in my oven! lol At church tonight, the other women said they all ready had theirs cooked...well, maybe that's what I should have been doing instead of making, deleting, remaking and redeleting scrapbook pages. LOL Oh well, I will have the turkey ready by tomorrow noon and a pumpkin pie also. Oops, gotta go baste again!!

Quality Time

Nothing fancy here. I was just playing around in PSE5 (I'm telling you Carol, I'm not getting much better at this) and this is what I came up with. My dear husband and youngest son, doing what they do best (according to them, lol). If they are such great fishermen....how come I haven't had fish for dinner in such a long time?? Really though, the idea is just for them to spend some father and son time together. They don't care if they catch anything or not.

Country Road

This is another picture I took after picking up my grandsons at school. There is, of course, a major highway that we can take, but the boys and I prefer taking this route on the way home from school. It's just a small two lane country road that winds around what is called "the bluff".
Off to the left in this picture, you can look down and see the river running along the same path only it's about 300 feet below the road. On this day it was misting rain and the leaves are starting to fall, though they have not fully turned yet. My goal is to make just a little memory of the beauty my grandsons and I shared. Maybe, one day when they are older, they will drive down this same road and say.....
"I remember when Mamaw used to drive us down this same road to show us how pretty it was. Those were the good old days."

Simply Autumn

This is a page I did while playing around in PSE5. I'm wondering if I'll ever get the hang of this software. Anyway, I took the picture in the upper corner last Friday when I picked up my grandsons at school. We have had such a dry summer that most of our leaves are falling off when the wind blows, before they've had a chance to change colors. Gary cleared up all the fallen leaves from our yard on Monday and today it's almost covered again. That's a big pet peeve of his, he doesn't like leaves laying in the yard. I say "but they are leaves, that's their job". He doesn't find the humor in that. lol. I used Carol's "Autumn Walk" kit for this page. It can be found on her blog site http://www.angelscrapper.blogspot.com/ Love this kit, Carol. Thanks so much.

A Serious Chocoholic

It appears that Seth has a serious problem. We are considering Chocoholics Anonymous, lol. In all seriousness, though, please keep my niece, her husband and their two little angels in your prayers as they live in San Diego and the fire continues to rage there with no let up in sight. Also, keep everyone in that area in your thoughts and prayers please. I just got an e-mail from her and so far they are not in the direct path but they are packed and ready to evacuate at any moment. Because of the winds, the fire is going in all directions.

Goodness, I Missed You All !

Hi everyone!! Have I only been gone one week??? Seems like much longer. It's going to take me forever to catch up on everyones postings. Thank you Linda, for watching after Floyd for me...you can still visit him, but remember, I'm watching you. And Gerri, I'm sorry I left you alone to deal with all these younguns. That's a lot for one MATURE LADY to deal with! lol
Wow, I hope everyone had a Sunday as full of blessings and I did. We had such wonderful services at church today, both this morning and tonight. God was truly in our midst!!
OK, camping was fun this past week, peaceful, relaxing, hot, cold, dry, rainy!! You name it, except for snow we had a little of everything. Monday it was in the 90's, so we ran the air conditioner, Tuesday was sunny but windy so that was really nice. Wednesday it was cool but comfortable, Thursday..rain all day, we ran the heater. Friday....Doggone COLD! I guess this was truly the last camping trip of the season. lol
Well, I must be off now...got lots of catching up to do. When you are a social butterfly, like me, (LOL) you have lots of friends' blogs to visit.
I love you all,
Jude

Just a short note.

I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't been online the past few days and maybe won't be again until Saturday. Remember a couple of weeks ago when my darling husband wanted to go camping and I wanted to stay home and paint our living room?? Well, painting is finished so we are camping this week. We just came home today to get ready for church tonight but are going back to the campground after church tonight. The plan is to come home Saturday but we may just play it by ear... Anyway, just wanted to check in with my dear friends and let you know that even though I'm old and I know Noah's last name...I haven't "kicked the bucket" yet. LOL
Love you all and miss you.

Ready or Not...

I'm going back and digging out the baby pics. This is Tiffani at 6months. She lately has taken to reminding everyone that she will be 14 next month. lol Funny how they can't seem to wait to get older. Believe it or not, I can remember being the same way when I was her age. But oh how the time flies. I did this page in PSE5, still trying to get the hang of this software. Carol says I'm not too old to learn but I'm begining to wonder about that. Thanks, Jenny, I love this kit.

How I miss those days,

when the grandchidren were babies. Tiffani will be 14 next month and CJ will be 16 the month after. Much too "grown up" now to play in the fall leaves with Papaw. I clearly (and dearly) remember when I took this picture. We had the girls for the day and we spent all that day playing outside in the leaves. Gary raked those leaves several times that day just so he and the girls and I could play in them. I'm so glad we made these memories together.

A sad note tonight.

We received a sad call today. My husband's brother, who lives in Nebraska, called to say that his wife died this morning. She had been ill with heart problems for some time and it seems that she died in her sleep. She was only 55 years old. Anyway, the reason I'm telling you all this is because I want to thank Carol (and all who responded back to me) for the lovely "Sisters Day" e-mail that she sent because I sent this to my sister-in-law Tuesday and I don't know if she got to read it or not. I pray that she did. This also goes along with SherryC's e-mail that she sent out today that had to do with not waiting to do, use and say things. There may not be another chance. So I just want to tell you all that even though we've never met face to face, I love you all dearly and you are all special to me.
Love and Blessings,
Jude

What In The World Were We Thinking? (More Old Lady Ramblings)

Sunday night after church, my darling husband came up with the idea that we should go camping at least one more time before we winterize the camper. So, ok, I'll agree to that (even though it means a week without my computer, lol). Well, we wake up Monday morning and we both are kind of wishy-washy, do we want to go this week or wait until next week?? We finally decide on next week. "Well....(I say, in all my wisdom, lol) since we aren't going camping, let's paint the living room, it's something we've been meaning to do for a few months now. OK, we spend most of the day Monday discussing what color we want and we may as well paint the ceiling while we're at it. Tuesday, morning we go to the local paint store, purchase the paint, drop cloths, brushes, rollers...you know, all the things you need to literally tear a whole room apart, move furniture, tape up wood work and door frames (Gary can get pretty dangerous when armed with a paint brush). Now, here we are on Wednesday... we have unexpected visitors this morning and finally get started painting at 12:30. Oops.....I forgot, today is the day I have to go to the doctor to get my flu shot at 2:30pm. Gotta stop, bathe, wash the paint out of my hair and fight midday traffic to get to my doctor's office, which by the way, is in another town. Now wouldn't you think it would be a fairly quick thing to get a simple flu shot? Think again!! I had to wait almost an hour! Ok, whatever. By now, it's going on 4pm and since we got started late, we skipped lunch and now I'm starving. No problem..Kentucky Fried Chicken drive thru, (thank you, Colonel Sanders). By now, Gary has figured that we probably won't be painting anymore today, so he's got the brushes washed out and waiting patiently for me to get home with food. We clear a place at the kitchen table...(we're painting the living room, how did the kitchen get to be such a mess?) and set down to enjoy our "dinner". Guess what??? By the time we finish our meal, it's time to get ready for church!!! We will probably be at least another two days getting finished with our "little project" that I thought sounded like a good idea THREE days ago. Oh well, to quote the famous southern belle Scarlett O'Hara, "Tomorrow is another day."By next week, we're going to NEED that week of camping to rest up. WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE WE THINKING???

A Beautiful Quote

I love this quote because it's so true. Sometimes we all have little empty places in our hearts and maybe we don't even realize it at the time, but then someone will say something and you find that's just what you needed to hear at the time to just make your heart feel full. There is a lesson to be learned here also, ( at least for me there is) .... You may be the person to SAY that something that SOMEONE ELSE needs to hear.
This page was made using CJS "Victorian Beauty" from cjs scrapbooking with attitude. It's such a beautiful kit and I thought it went perfectly with the quote.

Ramblings From An Old Lady

I'm new to this blogging thing, but as I understand it, a blog is whatever you want it to be at any given time.
I know you all have heard about how the mind wanders more and more when you get older...well, believe me, it's true! Today my mind is wandering all over the place and just when I catch up with it, I find it's moving on to something else. LOL
You know, several years ago, I probably couldn't have put my thoughts into words on paper, or type as it happens to be here. But God works in mysterious ways... I had a stroke a little over 5 years ago which left me sometimes unable to make what's in my mind come out in words. Believe me I used to be quite a talker, lol. I figure this is probably God's way of saying "Jude, you need to be quite and listen for a while." Amazingly, He let me keep my memories and also gave me the ability to put my thoughts on paper. I've developed a love of journaling. I love writing about my pictures, somehow seeing my memories in print seems to make them all the more special. And I find that I can now write what I could never have put into words from my mouth. So from time to time you may see some of that come out in my passion for digital scrapping. I hope you enjoy the ramblings of an old lady and please feel free to leave comments right underneath each post.

C.J. -Our Sweet Granddaughter

This is one of my favorite pictures of CJ. It's hard to believe she will be "Sweet Sixteen" in only a couple of months. CJ (short for Candace Jasmine) is our special gift from God. When she was born she was in neonatal intensive care for almost two weeks. It was a really tough time for us because we had just lost her infant brother, Jordan, 2 years before. Of course all our grandchildren are special to us, it's just that, for a while, we weren't sure we would get to bring CJ home.

Our Beautiful Redhead
