Christmas Eve at Mamaw and Papaw's

Me and Gary with Ashton on Christmas Eve at our house. I have no idea how many pictures were taken of this precious little one...I think everyone there had their camera ready. Oh yes, I have many more of him, will post a little later.

This is a fabulous QP made by Linda (scrapswithoutscraps) one of CJS Creation's creative team members. Thanks for the beautiful layout, Linda using CJS "Christmas Kit". Check the blinkie on the right for more fabulous freebies.

What a Wonderful Present

This of course was Ashton's first Christmas and I think it was more fun for everyone else in our family than it was for him. However, when his Daddy put him in the gift bag, he was perfectly fine with being in there. He seemed to know that everyone thought it was a really big deal that he was the star of the show and the best present that any of us received. God has truly blessed us with this little one.

Busy, Busy, Busy

I stopped by to visit Miss Gerri tonight, but when I saw the sign on her door, I quietly tip-toed away. Didn't want to disrupt "Her Creative Highness" while she was working.

Kit is from lots of different CJS creations kits. I didn't think Miss Carol would mind, since she's the one responsible for this. LOL

Ashton's First Christmas Play

Our grandson, TJ and his wife Amber live in a different town (not too far) from us but it is only a few miles from the North Carolina state line, so the church they attend is Elk Park First Baptist in Elk Park, NC. Anyway, they had their Christmas play last Sunday morning and Ashton played the part of Baby Jesus. We couldn't attend because we are in the choir at our church and we were doing our Christmas Cantata at the same time. But, thanks to our daughter, we got pictures. I know the close up picture is not very clear but I just had to trim and re-size so that you could see his little head and foot sticking up in the manger. You know how we grandma's are...trim, re-size, adjust color, etc, you do what ya gotta do to show those grandchildren off! lol . (in this case, great-grandchild). All of you who are close friends know how blessed we are to have Ashton and we will be forever grateful for all the prayers that you all sent up for him and our whole family.

The kit is CJS "Winter Blue".

Ramblings from a Lysol Queen

I feel sure that I could do a Lysol commercial right about now, if I felt up to it. You know what I'm talking about Linda. So far my germs haven't spread to anyone else in the family but I went to church Sunday because the grand kids were in the Christmas program...ya gotta attend those things! Did a lot of hugging and shaking of hands and also had choir practice after church for the Cantata which is coming up Sunday. Hope I won't be singing a combination of alto-tenor-soprano! Choir director says, don't worry...God will appreciate me making my "joyful noise". lol

Weather here has been crazy, we've gone from 14 degrees some nights to 62 degrees during some of the last few days. Today it's raining...again!!!. Doesn't put me in much of a Christmas mood as far as decorating goes. That combined with mom's passing and Dad's problems going on right now, my head and chest cold that keeps hanging on...I just don't feel in the decorating mood. Don't misunderstand...I will certainly be celebrating the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. The kids will still get presents, there will still be a huge Christmas dinner at our house, just without the tree. I think this is the first Christmas I can remember when I haven't put up a tree with all the decorations. All the kids and grand kids are old enough to understand and they all have their own trees at their homes. Mamaw is just feeling a tad bit depressed right now...but hey, there's still another week to go..who knows??
One thing is certain, there will be plenty of love to go around and wonderful memories will still be made.

CJ's Quilt

One of my other favorite hobbies, besides, digi scrapping, is quilting. This is a picture of one that I made for our granddaughter, CJ, a couple of years ago. I used several of my favorite pictures of her and put a verse in the middle square that says "I asked God for a flower, He gave me a garden; I asked God for a tree, He gave me a forrest; I asked God for an angel, He gave me a granddaughter." She was so thrilled with it and will not let anyone touch it. I hope it will bring her precious memories long after I'm gone.

Happy Birthday Carol

Whether we call her Miss Carol, Miss Doodle, doodlebug, angelscrapper, one half of CJS or OUR BLOG FAIRY....I feel blessed to call her my friend. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAROL. I hope your day is as special as you are.

Ashton, a drawing by his Dad.

Yep, this was drawn by our oldest grandson, TJ, who is Ashton's dad. All I did was put it on a background and cute little frame from CJS creations newest kit "Baby Boy Jasper". No PSE, no PSP, no anything done by me.
Our daughter, Melissa came by this morning and brought this incredible (we think) drawing by TJ. Of course Ashton would not be still long enough for him to do this so he did it by looking at Ashton's first "portrait" photo, taken at WalMart. TJ grew up with a love of drawing and we usually got him art supplies for Christmas when he got too big for toys. Anyway, just wanted to share this with you all. How great that Miss Carol just finished the "Baby Boy Jasper" kit.

Oh My !!

I received this award from my very dear friend, Linda, of "ScrapsWithoutScraps". I am so honored but at the same time very scared...how will I ever live up to the name of this award? I have never considered myself very creative...I just do what's on my mind and in my heart at the time. Thank you so much, Linda, for including me not only for this award, but also including me in your life through your blog.
So I suppose, I'm to list 7 things I love and pass this award on to 7 others, right? OK, here goes:
1. I love, first and foremost, Jesus Christ my Saviour.
2. I love my husband and very bestest friend, Gary (Rhett), who loves me despite all my
imperfections. lol
3. I love every member of my family, each of them being special in their own way.
4. I of course, dearly love my far away but close at heart, online friends. You know who you
are!
5. I love MUSIC , all kinds (except opera).
6. I love digiscrappin' (imagine that !)
7. I love my memories....yes, I'm so very sentimental.
Now to pass this on:
1. Carin of "makinitwork-carin.blogspot.com Such a special lady and talented lady who is
doing her very best to live up to her blog name. I have no doubt that she will do it.
2. Miss Judy, the other half of CJS. One of the very first online friends I had at SF.
3. Mat , though she calls herself a Texan now, she was at one time a Tennesseean. lol
4. Jay, of scrappinadventures. Haven't hear from her in a while but I still love and miss her.
5. Brenda, of cuddlebeezscraps. A very talented designer
6. Chris, our lovely Cajun friend.
7. I'm using number 7 to send to my trio buddies, Linda, Carol and Gerri. The veranda would
not be the same without your visits.

Fish Tales

I overheard Papaw and Jacob talking about their fishing trips together this summer. It seems Jacob remembers his fish being just a little bigger than what Papaw remembers. lol So I went through all the pics that I took this summer and came up with the small picture on this page....so.... maybe Jacob was exaggerating "just a little" (don't all fishermen?) But hey, it's the size of the memory made that really counts.

View From The Veranda

I have no idea where I was trying to go with this picture...but I don't think I quite got to my destination! LOL. I took this pic yesterday morning and thought it was quite pretty so I decided last night to try to make a scrap page with it. I tried and I tried and I tried, but nothing seemed to look like I wanted it to. So after much altering, adding embellishments, adding effects, blending and deleting all of the aforementioned things, I just gave up and this is the end result.

The background is from CJSCreations "Fall Splendor" kit.

And the leaves win again..

It's the same game every fall.. my poor Rhett fights with the many trees we have, to keep the falling leaves out of his precious lawn. He absolutely cannot stand for the lawn to be covered in leaves! He gets out the mower and rides around the yard for hours (we have a big yard) cutting up the leaves so that they make mulch for his precious lawn. He has done this four times already in the past two weeks. Did it today...lawn looked very nice when he finished... late this evening we got rain and wind....ya know what that means?? THE LEAVES WIN!

Cute Little Pumpkin

Of course we think this is the cutest little pumpkin in the patch! This is our precious Ashton who, although he didn't get to go out on trick or treat night, was still dressed for the occasion. He has another costume also (a little cow) but will save that one for another day. He is up to 1o 1/2 pounds now, which doesn't sound like a lot most people, but that calculates to 8 pounds gained in a little over4 months. Still has to wear his heart monitor, but the doctors say they may be able to take it off next month. We praise God daily for our little blessing.

The background is from Fall Splendor kit by CJS and the "frame" is from the new "Flings and Things". I love it Miss Carol...thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talent with us.

There's Just Somethin' About The South

Seems that Miss Carol isn't the only "Southern WannaBe". This lovely couple were seen checkin' out plantations for sale in nearby Gatlinburg, TN. I sure hope they find one. Only thing is, Miss Gerri...it takes more than an occasional "y'all" and a few Mint Juleps to make you a true southerner. One thing ya gotta learn is southern spellin' and language. You becomes ya, sometimes two words become one...as in woulda, coulda, shoulda, didya (as in didya have fun in TN) also one very important thing is most words don't ever end in g, as in shoppin', droppin', drinkin', dancin'. Rhett and I will be glad to give y'all lessons iffin ya think y'all would be intrested in learnin' southern speak. Y'all come back real soon now, ya hear?

Maxine: ya gotta love her

Just some fun. I love Maxine....she is soooo like me in some respects! LOL

The kit is "Fall Splendor colab" kit by CJS.

I did this one last week

for a challenge on Flair. I love Miss Carol's overlay and thought it just looked so pretty on this light blue background. Not that I'm tooting my own horn...not at all, I just really love this overlay. Challenge was "something you can't live without" and my bible certainly fits that category. I brought my Mom's bible home with me when I came back from my last trip. It is so comforting to read the passages that she has underlined and the notations that she made in the margins. To see how her handwriting changed from the beautiful script style she had before her stroke to the squiggly writing in her later days. OK, getting a little teary here so I just hope you enjoy the page with Miss Carol's beautiful overlay.

Ashton and Friend

Just an update on our "Little Answered Prayer". Ashton is almost up to 10 pounds now, which doesn't sound like a lot but it has been so wonderful seeing him grow from a little over 2 pounds to the alert little bundle of joy that he is now. Up until now we've only had digital pics of him that we all have taken, but this is his first "studio portrait", lol. We praise God for him every day. Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers for him.

Don't Even Ask !!

I have absolutely no idea why my parents (probably Mom) took a picture of my little sis and me in the bathroom. Judging from my "pose" I assume it must have been a planned picture. (gee, I sure hope that lid was down, lol). This is only one of many pictures that I found in a box in Mom's closet. Funny how things come back to you after all these years...I remember this bathroom in the house where we lived in Detroit...the big deep tub, that I used to fill up and pretend it was a pool..the curtains were blue with a dutch boy and girl pattern and they were made of plastic...and the radiator in each room that never put out enough steam to keep you warm, but was always making a clanging noise from the basement. I'm guessing that the journaling on the page was what Mom had in mind. LOL

Thanks for letting me share this memory with you all.

Time To Reflect

Such a lot has happened in my life, in a short span of time. Mom's passing, Dad having to be placed in a long term care center, two flights to Arizona in two months, handling Dad's business affairs from more than two thousand miles away.
While looking through my pictures that I took on this last trip, I came across this one and remembered what I was thinking of when I took it. Despite all the trials and troubles of this world, we can rest assured that God is near. He knows our needs, He knows when our heart aches, He hears our prayers and we need not fear if we put our trust fully in Him.
Now, I know that I'm not the only one who has had heartaches recently. I think of the people who lost everything in the hurricanes, I think of Donna and her family and little Katlin; Margie, who knows the pain of losing her daughter and oh so many others who are suffering in one way or another. It is my prayer that God will wrap His loving arms around them and comfort them as only He can. He's never more than a prayer away.

Kit is "Magical Sherbert Holiday" from CJS.

I just felt the need

to do this page. With all that's been happening in my life I don't feel like I've really had the time to do as much scrapping as I'd like to. I've had this picture of my Mom for ages and have never scrapped it. I came across it a few days ago and it just reminded me of how very much I miss her. Thank you all for being the kind of friends that I can share my feelings with. You all are a blessing to me.

Seems I have been neglecting

my hostess duties on the veranda lately. For this I apologize, but I told y'all to make yourselves at home so I hope you have. Has it only been a month since my last post?? Seems like ages ago because so much has been going on. The camping trip, a few days back home, a sudden trip back to Arizona because of Dad's health and so many decisions to make and details to take care of. This old head of mine is spinning and I haven't even touched the juleps. lol
I thank you all, dear friends, for the prayers, love and support that you have shown. I know that you all are angels that God has placed in my life because He knew I would need moral support.
Will be back with more posts as soon as I sweep the leaves off the veranda! LOL

Y'all are on your own

for a few days. Miss Vidalia has never been camping before so we are taking the camper out to the lake for a few days. Can you believe she's 56 years old and never been camping? (oops did I tell her age??lol) Anyway, she has her heart set on seeing a bear and some deer. I'm ok with the deer but the bear I can do without! We have seen some before near the campground but I don't care to re-live that experience.

Miss Gerri, you are in charge of the girls while we are away. Linda...YOU are in charge of all the makings for the juleps.!! Please make sure that Gerri plays nice and shares. On second thought, maybe I should leave Carol and Judy in charge of GERRI. LOL.
Will be back in a few days, in the meantime, just continue to make yourselves at home on the veranda.

Love and hugs to all,
Miss Scarlett

Happy Birthday Sandra

Wishing a very happy birthday to such a lovely lady and a dear friend. May all your wishes and dreams come true!

Kit is "Aqua" by BelVidotti Scraps

Newest Southern Bell on the veranda is:

Yep, pronounced exactly like the onion, VIDALIA. lol Miss Gerri suggested that if little sis is going to be a regular on the veranda, she needs a more southern name. Sis thought and thought and finally saw a bag of onions I had just bought at the grocery store and said "Vidalia" that's my name. Ya gotta admit, it's pretty southern. I've also warned her that Miss Gerri hears voices and it's hard to tell what she may be turned in to. LOL

(Gerri, I've extracted her to make it easier for you, but please don't tell on me.)

Ashton's Smile

OK, I know the old wives tale that newborns don't really smile, it's just gas but......don't even try to tell me that this is not a real smile. lol Prayers are answered. Ashton came home yesterday, weighing in at a whopping 4 pounds 10 ounces! No feeding tube, he takes a real premie bottle now. This picture was taken earlier last week while still in the hospital but he's home now and only has a heart monitor "just in case", but he seems to be doing so well. We are all so thankful to God for this tiny little blessing.

I Find Comfort

The pastor at Mom's funeral read this at the end of the service and made a copy of it for me. I find such comfort in it's message because it speaks of calmly joining our Saviour in Heaven. Mom was definately ready and she passed so peacefully in her sleep. I miss her terribly, of course, and I'm certain that I always will, but it would be so selfish of me to want her to stay in the condition she was in. Anyway, I just feel so comforted when I read this and wanted to share it. If you click on the page, it will enlarge, for easier reading.

I'm sorry I can't give credit to the writer because it was not on the copy that the pastor gave me. The kit is "Wild Rose" by swheatcreations.

Into The Mystic

One of my favorite songs by Van Morrison comes to mind when I see the fog roll in over the very cool water of this little lake. Our favorite campground is located by it's edge and in late evening when the sun goes behind the mountain, a slow gentle fog begins to roll into the campground. That's when you know it's time to start the campfire! lol. This is such a beautiful spot that God created for our enjoyment and I thank Him so much for it.

Background and Overlay are both from CJS, can't remember which kit the background is from. Sorry, Carol.

True Friends

God has truly blessed me with the most wonderful group of friends that a person could ever have. A lot of friends will share your joy with you, but it takes a really special friend to share your pain, your sorrow and continue to pray for you in your time of need. That is what you all have done and I really feel that this has helped me get through this most difficult time in my life. When I returned home, yesterday and saw all the comments filled with love and concern from you all, I was overcome with emotion. You knew that I probably wouldn't see any of these comments until I got back home, yet you faithfully came day after day. I can't ever thank you enough or tell you in words how very much this means to me. I feel that you are all extended members of my family as well as true friends. I have found, in you ladies, that "friends are made in your heart", not necessarily "in person" and I love you all dearly.

The Old Homeplace

I did this page for a journaling challenge on Scrapflair. I took the picture of the cabin on our trip to Cades Cove, near Pigeon Forge, Tn. It's such a beautiful place with preserved old homes and churches from the late 1700's. I love those old places and it always gets my old mind thinking what life must have been like back then.
Don't remember right now where I found the frame but it was a freebie from somewhere on digiscrap depot. The staple is from one of CJS kits, don't remember which one, I guess my mind is still stuck in the 1700's. LOL

Such A Big Blessing

in such a tiny package. Introducing Ashton John Blevins, our great-grandson. We weren't expecting him until September, but he's here and the doctors say he's doing very well. His breathing is 50% respirator and 50% on his own and they have even started giving him a little mother's milk every 6 hours in addition to IV's and he is tolerating it well. He's active and doesn't like his diaper changed, lol. Thank you all so much for your prayers and please keep them going up.

Rested and Refreshed....

I think NOT! Though, that was the purpose, it didn't turn out quite the way we expected. We left for the campground on Wednesday, got the camper set up and yea, we're camping! Thursday, our youngest son, Kevin, brought his boat up and he, Gary and our two grandsons went out fishing while I stayed curled up in a lounge chair with a good book at the campground. Friday was a peaceful, relaxing day. Then my work began... Saturday was Kick Off Day for Bible School, so I drove grandsons to the church. It was a lot of fun but I'm thinking "why did we try to mix a camping trip and bible school in the same week?", because I had (as usual) volunteered to help out in bible school. Thankfully, the campground that we love to visit is not that far from our home because I used nearly two tanks of gas in my van and we didn't even leave the county. LOL. There is much more to this story, but I'll save that for later... let me just say..."There's no place like home!" and I'm happy to be back. I've missed you all terribly! Thank y'all so much for all the love and hugs left for us on the veranda, in the yard and in the driveway!! LOL I had to caution "Rhett" not to step on the hugs when he got out of the truck after getting the camper parked in the side yard. LOL

Such a Sweet Surprise

I found this waiting for me when I returned home from our little camping expedition. It is from one of my very dear and very talented friends, Miss Carol. Thank you so much dear friend. no, not riding a tricycle! This is my first attempt at trying to create at least one thing all on my own....Word Art. You won't believe how long it took me to do this! LOL. I do so admire all the designers and I'm in awe at how they come up with such beautiful kits. Can You Hear The Music?

Jacob, our youngest grandchild, in one of his rare quiet times. We have this old park bench sitting under a tree outside our kitchen window. Several times Gary has said that it's old and we need to get rid of it, but "Jay" loves to sit under the tree and listen to his MP3 player. He definetly has the love of music in his genes. We are all music lovers and he is no exception. He sings in the "Youth Praise Choir" at church, in the shower, in the car, in the bathroom, where ever the mood hits him and believe me, he isn't shy about it either! LOL We love you "JayMan".

Much too soon they grow up...

It seems such a short time ago that this little bit of a girl was only a baby. When she was born she had to stay in neonatal intensive care for almost two weeks. I've told the story of "CJ" before, so I won't bore you with details. We just continue to praise God everyday that He has a purpose for her and, by His grace, we still have her. I will, however, being her grandmother, brag just a little. She is graduating from a private Christian high school next week, at the age of 16, with a 4.0 average! She has already been accepted to King College in NC and will start in the fall. I still think of her as our fragile "Little Bit" but she has proven, far beyond our dreams, to be so strong, both in mind and body. She has dedicated her life to God and we are so proud of her.

Just a little refreshment for my special friends

I was in the mood for a fun page, so here it is. Now when "someone" comes by and drinks the last of the mint juleps, y'all can come on in and mix up a pitcher anytime you want. Since my dear Rhett is feelin' poorly these days, y'all just feel free to make your own if "someone" has beat you to the veranda.

The ingredients are:
12 mint leaves
2 tablespoons simple syrup (to make simple syrup, boil 1 cup of water and add 1 cup of sugar, stir to combine and let it boil a bit to make sure sugar is dissolved, store in fridge for future use)
crushed ice
bourbon
sugar

How to make Mint Julep
Moisten the top of the old fashioned glass with a damp paper towel and rim with sugar.
Tear the mint leaves and place them in the glass. Pour the simple syrup on top. Use a muddler to bruise the leaves (if you don’t have one, use the back of a spoon or something).
Add crushed ice to almost the top of the glass. Pour in enough bourbon to cover the ice.
Garnish with a mint leaf and sip with pleasure.

Of course, the proper glass to drink the Mint Julep out of is a special silver plated Mint Julep cup. You stir the drink in the cup with crushed ice, until a thin layer of ice frosts the outside of the cup.

Truth be told, I've never had a real mint julep but they sound so refreshing and so southern, and I love the story of the ceremony for guests. Just good ole fashioned southern hospitality.

Kit used is Miss Carol's new "Fun Kit" found at cjsscrapbookingwithattitude.

A Little Patch of Happiness

We're Home, Come On In

Hi dear friends. Finally, we are home.. My darling, Rhett is feeling better but he is far from back to normal. He has oxygen continuously but hopefully after he gets his strength built back up a little he can go back to using it only at night, like before. After all this, do you think he'll listen to me next time I say "you need to go to the doctor", instead of being stubborn and telling me, "I'm ok, I'll feel better in a day or two." MEN!!!!

We can't thank you enough for all your prayers and get well wishes. I've seen the pages that you all have made but haven't had time to comment yet. I've told Gary about them, he hasn't been able to make it into my office yet to actually see them but he will soon. He thinks you all are a great bunch of friends and he sends his thanks to all.

As for me....I've missed y'all so much and can't wait to get back into my normal routine visiting with all of you and seeing all the beautiful pages that I've missed. I did notice that Miss Gerri's page of her visit to us won Page of the Week....Congratulations, Miss Gerri..that was hilarious!!

My Goodness,Y'all

are just the greatest bunch of friends! I never expected to win with a pic of a "just a tad bit tipsy, Miss Gerri" lol. Thank you all so much, you're all such wonderful friends, don't know what I'd do with out you.

That being said, I apologize for not being here to vote..but very early Saturday morning I had to take my dear Rhett (Gary) to the hospital. He has COPD with emphysema and has developed pneumonia on top of that. So I will probably be out of touch for at least a couple of more days. Don't know when they will let him come home. I'm just here for a minute to shower, change clothes and then it's back to the hospital, but I had to stop and check in with everyone while I'm here. Will keep you all updated as I can. Please keep my dear Rhett in your prayers. I love you all so very much, and consider each one of you my extended family.
Love and hugs,Miss Scarlett (and Rhett).

PS: Please continue to make yourselves at home here and would someone please keep an eye on Miss Gerri?? ( I think she's developed quite a taste for the "rheumatiz medicine"). LOL

I was looking out on the veranda

today and was so surprised to see Miss Gerri! I do believe it's the first time I've been home when she visited. We had the most pleasant chat and a pitcher (or two, maybe it was three) of mint juleps. Now, I'm not one to gossip, but that Miss Gerri can put away some mint juleps! Why, you would swear she was raised in the south! Well, we chatted and listened to some music and when Miss Gerri was ready to leave she asked if I had any TN white lightning that she could take with her....mind you it was for "medicinal purposes only" (she said). Well, being the gracious southern hostess that I am, how could I refuse a request from such a lovely friend of mine? She was ever so thankful and promised she'd be back real soon for another visit. I declare, she's just the sweetest little thing and so ladylike. It's a shame she has this strange condition when she walks though, why if I didn't know better, I'd think she was just a little bit tipsy (if you get my meaning). Love you, Miss Gerri...y'all come back real soon!!

1964 was a very good year

It was the year I graduated from high school and went off to college. It was also the year that my very favorite car of all time, came out. A 1964 Ford Galaxie 500. Big and heavy, long and sleek. (that just about describes me now, lol). I have owned two of them in my lifetime but I no longer have either one. Probably couldn't afford gas for them now anyway. I have entered this page in Flair's "Fords Rule" challenge. I think Carol's latest kit "Mix It Up" matches the color of the car perfectly. Thank you Carol for sharing your great talent with us. Picture was taken in September of 2000 at the "Rod Runs" in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Now don't laugh....

I know, you can't help yourself....ok, now that you've recovered I'll go on with the story behind this page....OK...I hear you still laughing! Now wipe the tears from your eyes, get up off the floor and I'll continue....

I know I said that I wasn't going to enter any more challenges on another site, but while sitting on the veranda last night, I had one too many mint juleps and saw this "old school" challenge on the site and couldn't help myself. I suspect that it may have been one of Gerri's voices that was lurking on my veranda that made me do it. LOL.

Anyway, this is my third grade picture. The journaling reads:
"I was barely 7 years old, in a new school, moved from second to third grade early, no friends here, other kids in the class were older than me. I wondered...could life get any worse?!" In my seven year old mind, I thought not. But of course, I survived and made friends eventually and life was good again.

Kit is "Emma", a freebie on retrodivadesigns blog.
Of course, I survived and by the end of the year all was fine.

Denim Doll

My now, 14 year old granddaughter, Tiffani. Like Gerri, I think it's only the grandchildren who are getting older, (NOT!) LOL. No special reason for the page, except...it's my granddaughter, I think she's cute and it matches the kit. LOL
Kit is a freebie called "Denim & Dirt" from scrapsbyjewels blog.

One of my favorite pictures

of granddaughter, Tiffani. I remember this picture as if it was yesterday. I had gotten a big bunch of flowers to set out in the yard and just brought them in the house and set them on the kitchen table for a minute. Tiffani promptly climbed up into a chair and was deciding which she liked best by smell. Always trying to be the diligent mamaw...I had my camera close by.

Crunchy Eggs??

This is Cory, our now 12 year old grandson. I've done these pics before in a different layout on Flair, but I love them so much that I decided to try them again in a different style. This was Cory's first Easter and after finding the egg he wanted to eat it, which is fine....except you have to remove the shell first! Cory wasn't aware of that, apparently Papaw wasn't aware of it either. LOL

This kit is called "Denim & Daises" by Clarey of Crafty Accents. It was a freebie I found on DigiScrap Depot. I love it.

Seth's First Easter

This is my great-nephew, Seth on his first Easter. He looks like he's not real sure about this whole Easter Bunny thing. Seth is now 4 years old, much older and wiser, and loves everything about Easter. He is the oldest son of my lovely niece, Lisa.

My Alter Ego

Yes, if you're looking for Jude (aka ScrappyMamaw), you're in the right place. It seems that I have inherited this whole other personality. Her name is Miss Scarlett and how she came about is quite a long story. Let's just say it involves my being from the south and lots of friends spending time on my veranda enjoying Mint Juleps. lol

Ramblings From My Veranda

On this blessed Easter weekend, I'm feeling especially close to God. My grandsons are in the living room watching a ball game and Gary has gone to help our oldest son, Greg, "un-winterize" his camper. So here I sit thinking about this weekend and all that it means.

I found the video below on "You Tube" and decided that, even though it's quite graphic in places, I needed to share it. Sometimes we need to be reminded, graphically, about all the pain and suffering that Jesus went through. In our mind we know it...but do we really realize how bad it was? Probably much worse than the video shows.

Anyway, we heard the weather forecast for Sunday morning and it's suppose to be 30 degrees with maybe a few snow flakes. Ours is one of the few churches in our area that still observe Sunrise Service. Now what this entails is getting up extra early, showering, getting dressed and driving to church. Standing or sitting outside in the pre dawn morning, singing, worshiping and praying as we watch the sunrise. Afterwards, we go into the fellowship hall, have a huge breakfast, go home, undress, re-dress in our Easter outfits and go back to church at 10 am. This is all a very awesome experience. I've done it since childhood, though I admit that for years in my adult life, I seemed to have lost my way. But, because of His love for me, the Shepard left the fold, found His little lost sheep, and brought me back.
So, I was thinking, because I am human, I will probably (along with others) grumble about how much earlier we have to get up, how cold it is, how it's snowing (maybe), how we are sitting on cold, metal folding chairs instead of on our padded pews in the sanctuary, where it's warm, how we have to drive all the way back home and return in a couple of hours...and I would have the nerve to think of this PRIVILEGE as being a little uncomfortable for us. Then I think...my being uncomfortable for a little while versus Christ's suffering the crucifixion for hours on end....

Forgive me, Lord, for my selfishness. May I forever be reminded of Your wondrous love for a sinner like me. And though I know, You have saved me and promised me a glorious home in heaven, may I never forget that it is through Your grace alone that I am so blessed. So I ask you, Lord, to forgive me when I grumble, and may I never forget to thank You for Your awesome sacrifice. AMEN

In Honor Of My Savior

PLEASE GO TO THE BOTTOM AND TRUN OFF THE MUSIC PLAYER THEN RETURN AND WATCH, LISTEN AND RECEIVE A BLESSING. HAPPY EASTER TO ALL.

In Our Easter Bonnets

My baby sister and me, all dressed up for Easter, circa 1953. As you can probably tell from her chubby little cheeks, I thought she needed a bottle every time she made the slightest sound. I truly cherished my baby sister...still do!! I Love you, Sissy.

This kit is "Celebrating CJS", from cjsscrapbookingwithattitude. What a beautiful kit to celebrate your first year.

Looking or Hiding??

Story has it that I was looking for Easter eggs behind the smokehouse. I think I was really trying to hide so no one would see me in this Easter Hat! At this age, the only hat that I was interested in wearing was my cowboy hat.
This kit is "Looking For A New Day" by CJS. You can find it at cjsscrapbookingwithattitude or click on the blinkie at right. Thanks Carol, it's a beautiful kit.

My Guys

I was looking through my pictures and came across this one of Gary and our three sons, taken about 3 years ago and when I thought about scrapping it, I remembered Carol's kit "Things That Glitter In My Life". These are MY GUYS and they definetly are the glitter in my life!

Thank you Carol for this beautiful kit.

Gee, I've missed y'all

seems like I've been gone forever! Today is my first full day out of bed, well not exactly a full day...had to take a nap earlier. I was up long enough to check e-mail yesterday (184) but I only read the important ones, like all the get well wishes and e-cards from you all. I can't tell you how much they meant to me. You all are the GREATEST bunch of friends anyone could have and I love each one of you so very much. And, OMG... I got page of the week and didn't even know it until I logged on tonight! Thank you all so much and I'm sorry I didn't get to vote on your pages. I will try to go back and play catch up with all your pages and make comments.

I think I told you all in e-mail that the doctor said I had pneumonia (again). His final complete diagnosis, after tests, is COPD with Chronic Bronchitis, which means get used to breathing treatments and inhalers.

Gerri, I'm sorry you drank all those Mint Juleps alone but ya know......you could have shared them with the other girls. LOL From reading all the comments y'all left, maybe I should change my name to "Miss Scarlett". (love it).

Well, this is short but wanted to let you know that I'm on the mend, finally. I think I'll check out your blogs for a while and then turn in. Hopefully, I can get to work on some new pages with that beautiful new CJS Celebrating kit. Goodness, has it been a year already?
Love to you all,
Jude

Now you tell me...

if you are a grandmother, is there any sweeter kiss than one from your grand- baby? I think not. Oh I remember those sweet kisses from my own children..they were heavenly and I thought I would never get a sweeter kiss. That is until I had grandchildren! I think their kisses are straight from the angels. This is Jacob who is now 10 years old and thank goodness he hasn't reached the "too big to be kissing my mamaw" stage. lol In fact, even my grown children haven't reached that stage. If we happen to run into each other while running errands, WalMart, grocery store....where ever. We stop and talk and they will always kiss me before we say bye and go our separate ways. I thank God everyday that He has blessed me with such loving children.

My lovely niece

Lisa is such a loving, caring and giving person. She is the mother of two beautiful little boys, Seth and Sammy, ages 4 and 3. We have such a close relationship even though she lives on the west coast. I love her like she was one of my own children.
